Urban Portraits by Neil Hanson Photography
I was recently commissioned to create a set of images for Fantasy Author – Rosemary A Johns, for the release of her new book – Book Dragons (Rebel Vampires volume 1) and the sequel Blood Shackles.
Rosemary contacted me with a specific requirement to create a set of different and edgy portraits to define her fantasy author brand on social media & her website. As well as shooting a series of author head shots to use within the book. After some thought and research into a few locations I chose to use Banbury town centre, after the streets went a little quieter and the shoppers had all departed. The shoot itself took only a couple of hours to complete as I had pre-chosen a number of urban locations within a small area to use. Most images were created using off-camera flash techniques to gain the edgy, dramatic look Rosemary was after, I also had to consider the colour theme she was after of red & black in the backdrops.
‘The shoot for my author photos was fantastic. Neil understood what I needed instinctively. Dark and urban – like my books. Sometimes it felt like he was inside my imagination! Yet he captured my softer side as well – and the shots I needed for the back cover. I’ve had many compliments on my website photos. I wanted something different – and that’s what Neil offered, it has made a large difference in the creation of my brand and website – it was spot on!”
