February half term week & we took a trip down to North Devon for a family holiday. It’s important to break away from the work side of my photography sometimes & have some ME time. I think this is really important & helps your creativity & the way you look at the world. So I set myself a challenge of documenting our family week away totally in Black & White.
We have never really explored this part of Devon before, mostly by-passing & choosing Cornwall. This was a week of exploring North Devon, finding Jonathan Edwards feet, Damien Hurst’s Verity, Tarka the Otter’s home, long walks on deserted beaches, dramatic skies, scavenging seagulls, steam trains, an Ifracombe pub fire, high spring tides, crashing waves & the occasional cream tea! Being a full time Wedding Photographer I did have to take a cheeky look at the unique Tunnels Beaches Wedding Venue in Ilfracombe whilst we were there.
My choice of camera for the week was the brillaint Fuji XT-1 system combined with 3 lenses – 56mm f1.2, 10-24mm f4 & 55-200mm f3.5-4.8. I love the fact I can carry around all this pro gear & hardly notice I have a camera with me at all! I would certainly have noticed a huge difference trying to lug all my pro Nikon gear around! For some of the images below, I have also used the Lee Seven5 filter system as well.
Here’s a few from the week……..
Your black-and-whites have so much soul! Wonderful storytelling.
